Dear Friends,

Many of you have been donors for a long time and have followed The Ranches as the years have passed. Fortunately, thanks to y’all, we have had more good years than bad and been able to count our blessings rather than lamenting our trials and tribulations. When I consider and ponder all that I am thankful for, a dedicated and committed donor base is at the top of my list.

Your Generosity Goes A Long Way

If you have been following us, you know that the past few years have been filled with projects, upgrades, and remodels. Your generosity has allowed us to compensate for the fact that our newest cottages are approaching 30 years in age and 10 kids can take a toll on anything that tends to “wear out” or break. That generosity has also built an indoor arena, purchased a much-needed replacement van for one of our cottages, and allowed us to purchase a commercial grade lawnmower to address our 14 acres of grass. That same generosity also allowed us to get a truck for our new “Ranch Worx” trades program and will afford us the opportunity to take the kids on a vacation to our National Parks when all the issues related to this pandemic have cleared up.

In short, the lives of the kids and staff at The Ranches have been greatly enriched by your generosity and your willingness to work to address the needs of our organization.

“Ask, and It Shall Be Given You; Seek, and Ye Shall Find; Knock, and It Shall Be Opened Unto You”

If I am being honest, I struggle with our internal schedule of asking for things. I have only received a few pieces of angry mail in my time at The Ranches, but the frequency at which we ask for money has been, by far, the most prominent reason for negative feedback. I get it, but I also get that our overall fundraising plumets when we fail to ask.

So…this Summer Appeal is another ask and if, like some who write angry letters, you are tired of us asking, I encourage you to discard or recycle this piece of mail based on your view that it is unnecessary. My feelings won’t be hurt. If, on the other hand, you’re still reading…

Work Trucks

All of the projects that we have going on require us to transport tools and kids from place to place. Over the years, a number of generous donors have given us older trucks that we have turned into “work trucks” for the purpose of hauling tools and kids and hay and all sorts of things. Well, that sadly hasn’t happened in a while and our “work trucks” are starting to “work” less and less often.

As a result, we’d like to ask for your help in purchasing a small utility vehicle for hauling stuff between projects; nothing fancy, just a small vehicle with a bed at the back. We hope to raise $10,000 – $12,000 for this UTV. Your help is, as always, greatly appreciated.
