New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches To Consolidate Operations
May 19, 2009
BELEN, N.M. -- The New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches, Inc. (The Ranches), a non-profit organization providing help for
disadvantaged youth, is consolidating its currently separate Boys and Girls ranch operations into one operation.
The Girls Ranch operation will be moving from its current location southeast of Santa Fe and will combine with the
Boys Ranch operation, located on over 2,000 acres in the Belen area this summer. The consolidated Boys and Girls
Ranch operations will continue to provide housing, education and other support for boys and girls, ages 12 to 18.
"We're excited about beginning a new chapter in the 65-year-old history of The Ranches with the joining of our
Boys and Girls Ranches at our Belen facility. School, dining and some activities will be coed, and of course, residential
arrangements will be separate," said Michael Kull, President of The Ranches. "While some of their responsibilities may
shift, most of our employees will remain on staff and continue to guide and support the residents."
The Ranches will continue to own its 117-acre ranch property near Lamy, Southeast of Santa Fe, and will investigate
ways to use it for generating revenues, rather than operating it as a separate residential and educational facility
for girls.
"We're just like most organizations and businesses dealing with our current economic environment and searching
for efficiencies," said Kull. "After a lot of analysis, we determined that we can eliminate substantial expenses
by consolidating our Boys and Girls Ranch operations. This will enable us to remain a fiscally healthy organization,
and that will allow us to continue meeting our mission to help disadvantaged youth."
The Ranches is a non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged youth get on the right path for making their lives
rewarding and successful. First established in 1944, The Ranches provide youth with residential care in a rural
setting, accredited on-campus schooling and programs that teach self-confidence, responsibility, conflict resolution
and appropriate behavior choices.

Mission Statement
The Mission of the The Ranches is, "Rekindling hope in today's youth." When
considered along with our purpose statement, "To provide services for young people and families for a brighter tomorrow,"
a truth emerges, the power of hope to transform lives. Our Mission statement not only defines what we do, but the difference
we want to make. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Everything that is done in the world is done by hope." As a Christian
organization, we know the importance of good values including hope. However, such values are useless unless they also become
important to the individual young people who utilize our programs. Hope includes many facets; a new life,
a relationship with God, finishing school or a job with a future. When a young person believes such things are possible, hope
transforms.
